Is this an Australorp pullet? *update*

Hi, I'm the friend that took the ducks. I'd be in over my head to guess about a possible breed being a duck person, but I will add this comment on the size. One of the ducks I took is a Pekin and WAY to small. He's about half the weight he should be at his age (although I swear he's put on a pound already ). I'm glad to see the roo (pullet?) safe and happy!

I appologize for not introducing you today! The guy driving the truck was my boyfriend Clark, and the guy in the yellow truck was Anthony. All I can say is, they never should have got birds...

Don't worry about the introductions. The weather wasn't exactly inviting!

Birds aren't for everyone especially if they don't know what they're getting into. My husband thought they wouldn't take up too much of my time.

I'm certain about the one Pekin and 4 Khaki Campbells. Not sure on the 6th. I've seen some variations of the khakis that look close, but the coloring is not quite right. If she were bigger I'd say Khaki/Rouen cross, so maybe Khaki/Mallard?

I did think that one kinda looked like a Khaki/Mallard mix. There's a duck on Ideal called a Buff Orpington Duck (psh, chicken name), its a darker khaki color. If you can get pictures and post them, I'm sure someone on the board could tell you what they are. Gracefulbantams has a few ducks, she might know.

It could be a Giant. They grow pretty slow and take awhile to get big. I have one about the same age. I'll try to get a picture of her tomorrow so we can compare.

I think it's a roo..not sure on breed because it looks hunkered down in the pic. Maybe with a better pic and once it fills in we can figure out the breed. The green sheen and longer tail feathers make me think roo. It's hard to tell in the pic, but the neck feathers look a bit pointy as well. It could be a black aussie. I doubt Sumatra as they should have a black face (no red skin) unless like others said it's just a poor representation of the breed. Please post new pics as the bird gets healthier and we'll try again.

Gloria - What a pretty chicken! I hope mine fills out like that. Is your Giant a roo or a pullet? I think the head looks just like mine's. But, mine has the long poined feathers on the neck. What are the other two chickens in your picture? I love the colors!

Hink - You are correct, it does have long pointy feathers on the neck. I agree, not a Sumatra.

When I first saw it I thought it was a roo, but the tiny comb makes me wonder. The green sheen is VERY obvious. I put it in the Mixy pen today, it was very grateful. Its a friendly little chicken! My family loves it already, Dad calls it Blackie *haha* I hope its a Jersey Giant, he has always wanted one.

There are solid black OEG Standards but I don't think that is what she is. I am leaning toward giant. Gloria is right. They are slow to mature.

Mine is a pullet. The hen on the right is a Buttercup and the hen on the left is a Salmon Faverolle. Both are really nice birds. My Giant looked like your bird up untill about a month ago. Then she just really filled out.
