We just noticed these black spots on our hen's comb a couple days ago. From what I've read, I suspect it may be the dry form of avian pox. She is our only full grown chicken at this point, so I know it's not from getting picked on by other chickens. She is acting normal in all other regards, except that she is not laying (which ceased about 4-6 weeks ago). She doesn't lay with much frequency or regularity though, so the drop in egg production may or may not be related to the spots on the comb.
We also have 4 chicks (not quite 3 mos. old) that we recently moved outdoors. They are sectioned off in a separate part of the coop, but only separated from the big chicken's area by chicken wire. If our big girl does have avian pox, is it safe to assume that the chicks have already been exposed? They are behaving normally and do not appear to have any spots on their combs (although their combs are quite small).
Any thoughts or advice?
