I posted some pictures recently of a barred rock chick I bought at a feed store in the 'pullet' bin. I still feel like it may be a rooster. is it too early to tell?
Don't be too hasty. This one could go either way, really. When the wings come in well, then, we'll know. The head spot isn't all that diverse and it's getting a tail already, so that could be a pullet. I've raised BRs for years and some will fool you, though usually, it's pretty clear what sex they are at hatch.
I was told that if you extend the wing, the girls have a relatively smooth/even curve to the wing. Boys will have little upside down V's all along the edge.
Feather sexing does not work unless they are bred for that trait, so it may not work on your BR chicks. These are easy enough to sex anyway, by head spot, down color and leg color (taken together)
hmm... mine is even lighter than that today.. I guess I'll just wait alittle longer and see what happens. I would love for the chick to be a rooster but we live in a neighborhood and can only have hens. So there might be a post soon for a free barred rock rooster lol. thanks for your help!
