Is this cuckoo maran a chick or a dude?

I would say rooster based on comb and wattle size.

Interesting note, my cuckoo maran hen is my biggest bird, bigger even than my BCM Rooster. She is also the best broody I have.

Thanks all....there is definitely a majority opinion! I'm starting to agree with you all.

And yes, my friend with the farm has generously offered to take him/her back and give me another instead.

Or, should I order a new chick for this spring of a different breed and raise her by hand so she is more familiar with me and rest of flock?

Hmmm....
I have a Rhode Island Red, Australorp and silver laced Wyandotte...what should the 4th girl be? Must be cold hardy and family friendly....

Barred Plymouth Rock!! Hands down!!!

Barred Rock, huh? That was one of my thoughts. Any specifics why?

Also thinking Ameracauna, Delaware, Buff Orpington, Easter/Olive Egger.

thanks!

TweetyNPetey - you're saying that my pics (birdie pearl) are a barred rock?

Aoxa posted just before you with a Barred Rock pic....but that's not my bird :)

Just checkin!

If you mean the black and white one in this pic:

LL

Then yes, that's a BR roo. I own a Cuckoo Maran roo and he is nowhere similar in color, yours has no feathering of the legs as far as I can see.
