I would be very careful about opening that up or bugging it. Flystrike is big right now in the summer where flies lay eggs in open sores. Maybe see if it gets bigger. It could just be an insect bite. I would just watch it. If it gets larger or starts to look red and infected,then we go from there.

It kind of looks infected now, should I take her to the vet?

You do seem concerned about it, so my personal recommendation is if you have access to a vet it would be better to get it looked at so you don’t worry anymore.

I would try a warm, damp compress on it for starters. I see bugs in the photos, too. You might want to treat your flock with permethrin.

I just checked back and it looks like someone pecked at it because it’s bleeding. I’m going to take her to the vet asap.

It could have been a small abscess that popped. Or it could have been bugging her and she rubbed it against something.
