Some if you may recognize me from my new duckling thread but just to get everyone up to date: our family recently purchased a duckling around a month old. It’s a Pekin duck and the gender is still currently a mystery. We’ve all be referring to Sunni as a female but I’m starting to have strong beliefs that Sunni might be a drake. When we put Sunni in the run with the others she tends to be a little aggressive and tries to bite the chickens if they get too close. I also saw her jump on top of our RIR hen which at the time I thought Sunni was attacking her but I don’t think that was the case. Sunni was brought into the family to keep our other duck, a female mallard, company since we just lost our other duck. I’ve started bringing them in for a bath each night together and tonight Sunni was actually chasing Billy (our mallard) around in the bath tub and biting her neck and attempting to get on top of her.
I do not know Sunnis exact age but he/she is around 5-6 weeks I believe. So still fairly young. But when I was raising Billy and our other duck when they were little I don’t recall this every happening. Is this because Sunni is possibly a drake? We’ve never had a drake before so I’m not really sure. For those of you with drakes, did they act this way at this age?
