Is this French Black Copper Maran a pullet or roo?

That is a beautiful Rooster! Sorry, but yeah, it's a Rooster. If you have a well bred line of Black Coppers you can normally tell pretty easy purely based off of the comb. Hens "normally" do not have much red color in them with a well bred BC line. And all of the trolls around... I said "NORMALLY" there are several cases of red combs in hens, but with all of my batches (Bev Davis) the hens have had yellowish combs while the roos have outstanding red color from about week 1 or 2. My vote is Roo, find a good home for him, he looks like he'll have some amazing features and most would likely use him as a breeder. Just my two cents

Here is my little guy now, alittle more than two weeks latter. No longer a Mathilda but now a Maximus (my daughter named him). He is pretty and getting new feathers daily. He tried to crow this morning according to my son and mom. I haven't heard it yet. I am ok, I will keep him for a bit while I find him a good home. I agree with the above post that I will look for someone who may want to breed him. My pretty boy. I may be getting a replacement pullet this week for the olive egger, hopefully all will get along.

Well yes it is a rooster. He is almost 4 months old and I am searching for a home for him. He is beautiful. The roosters in this breed are so colorful. If anyone is interested let me know. I am in southern California.

I have a 1.5wk old BCM and I'm afraid he's a boy because how he stands, but he/she has white tips, just curious what that would be an indication of.

Thanks for the pictures! I have a black copper maran chick and s/he is so pretty but I have noticed that at ~3 weeks her comb is more prominent than my ~4 week old sexed pullets. I unsure about the ages because she was in a mixed bin labeled April 15 (also my birthday!) but my chicks were born April 13 and there's no way they are a few days apart, my maran looks like she 2 weeks old.

I wasn't planning on having a roo but I have two Americaunas so I could get olive eggers out of the deal but I would drive my husband nuts...I feel terrible because the breeder had a blue copper maran he was sure was a pullet but she was another $5. *DOH*

I hope your roo ended up with a good home!

So our 10-12 week old black copper marans just started to crow, not loud yet. Was his crowing bearable? Our neighbors and we live on 5 acre plots, trying to figure out if their crowing is going to disturb them...
