Is this lice or mites?

I didnt see any evidence of external parasites on your hen. I'd bet you're dealing with a feather picker.

That would explain why she's the only one that has missing feathers/bald spots! No other hens in my coop have any spots at all on them. But her bum is so red, it looks irritated. :(

Does anyone have a picture of what lice or mites looks like. The picture looks like my chicken (I think it was from the roo so we moved him away from his girls). How long does it take for feathers to grow back in when they look like this?? Is there anything to help feathers grow back in, or is it a waiting game until they molt?

Been awhile since I had a bad feather picker in the flock. Boosting protein levels to 20% can sometimes remedy the problem. Animal proteins are superior to plant proteins. Dried skim milk is a good protein increaser. Fish is too, just make sure it is sodium free. I use a sodium free tuna from the grocery store a few times a week when I have birds molting. Keeping some anti-pick lotion on hand is helpful too. It has a spicy, peppery taste the birds don't like. I really hate killing things but if you have a real nasty picker on hand, sometimes you have to cull. I don't think that's the op's case though.
