Is this normal coyote behavior?

Yeah coyotes are crepuscular. You could always try eliminating them yourself.

I would love to, but how do you do that when they mostly run at night? I have looked into night vision scopes... CHA-CHING!!! And I am not comfortable messing with traps.

We have them in packs and less, worries me as they come right up by the houses around here. My chickens might have to be indoor/outdoor chickens lmao.

I’ve used a spotlight while eliminating a few undesirables. Once you’re outside for a spell at night your eyes adjust enough to see the outlines. Once you see that shine a light and prepare to shoot. The light usually doesn’t scare them off.

I have seen lone coyotes during the day, but I think a lot of times they hunt in packs. I can hear them howling to each other at night and sometimes it sounds like there is a six or seven of them together. I would be very careful if I was that dogs owner, coyotes can pack up on a dog And kill it, 60 or 70 pounds is not a very big dog. A pack of coyotes can gang up and kill it.

I do worry about that. Hank's got some age on him and moves pretty slow. Unfortunately the neighbor does not care about his animals, even if I were to warn him it wouldn't change a thing.

I have at least 3 different coyotes on my camera every night, and I've been putting it out for about a month now. The plus side is I'm no longer seeing foxes, which was my reason for setting up the camera. Not sure the new residents are any better though.
When I moved here 4 years ago, I would see a random coyote only in the fall and winter. Now its a nightly event. I let my ex-husband's nephew hunt my property for deer and waterfowl, for free (I've always been very fond of the kid), and all I asked of him was to come out during coyote season and take out some 'yotes. That has only happened a handful of times over the past 3 years. He always has an excuse. After seeing what the coyote population has come to, I'm thinking someone is going to lose their hunting privilege!

That’s sad, Hank probably won’t be around that much longer. The coyotes already know he is there and it looks like they have set their sights on him. Just a matter of time I think

I wish i knew how to find it. I once saw a video of a pack of coyotes trying to lure a dog down away from its person (who was on horseback). They were trying to take advantage of the dog's natural desire to chase an individual coyote. Luckily the dog had a good recall and the rider knew where the coyotes were.
