Is this normal?

What do I do about that? It would be making her limp & swollen? @Bills vs Beaks

Let me just first say, I would pay more attention to Amiga than me

My ducks sometimes limp, and their middle toe swells a bit. It only lasts a couple days at most, so I've made a theory, that the strenuous laying that they do causes it. I could be wrong, and my ducks always heal themselves, so I'm not really much of a help. I just wanted to air the idea.

There are some things that com and go, @Bills vs Beaks - I feel it's what makes some of this a little unnerving especially at first, because it can be hard to make the call between "one of those things" and "potentially serious." I never want to worry anyone, and I never want anyone to lose a critter because they missed early signs of trouble. sigh.

So, Paige, I suppose you could explain in gory detail what does happen to ducks in the wild that get sick or injured, but let's not go into that now. No offense, but if we think it through, nature ain't no Disney movie - at least not the kind I used to watch.

Back to matters at hand. T-Relief, I have found at the drugstore, it's an ointment for sprains and muscle pulls and has a little anti-inflammatory action, I think. I have used it on the ducks and myself. Turmeric is a spice, can be found in grocery stores. The powder is orange-brown-yellow, and stains the skin and anything moist that it touches. I spoon it into the ducks' food and add water and stir. It seems to help Romy, who has a bit of a limp if I don't put in into their food for a few days (so they get it daily). Most of my ducks are seven years old or so - I checked with the vet she said it cannot hurt and may help.

Epsom salt compresses are good for sprains and swelling also.

Thank you so much!

OK I have a theory... is it possible that bumblefoot not to have a brown top/scabbed top?? I think that her middle pad may have some puss in it? That's why it's swollen? Should I try to to relieve some of the pressure? Or no bc I'm not 100% sure that's what's going on?! @Amiga

Since pus in duck feet is, as far as I know, chunky, not fluid, getting it out of there would involve cutting, and I feel that is a last resort.

I think that Epsom salt compresses, clear iodine, and/or antibiotic ointment would be the way to go. . . .

I agree completely on the cutting thing. I didn't know if it was always chunky or not. Ok, I'm doing all 3 of those things... so we will wait! Prayers! Thanks again for all your help!

It's safe to say it's definitely the middle of her foot, it's got to be bumble- it's got to be full of infection- it was huge today. Poor babygirl.

I didn't know a ducks foot could swell so big! Poor thing! Lucily my mother is a nurse in the operating room & had been for 27 years! She did it for me, numbed her & everything! This was just yesterday- the swelling is already gone down some & she seems better w/ the exception of being really annoyed with her bandage! I also ordered antibiotics, they should be here tomorrow...hopefully. I'm still clueless to how this happened, but it has scared the crap out of me! Figured I would update you! Xo.
