Ok.. Lemme give you a recent background.. I have 4 roos and 7 pullets.. About a week ago, I separated two of the roos and put them in their own pens so the fighting would stop.. Everyone is happy.. The two roos I have with my pullets, one is and always has been the primary roo.. The other is somewhere at the bottom of the pecking order since he is much younger but he is starting to become a little man because once in a while he will *try* to mount the girls until the main roo sees him and chases him off.. No biggie.. He has also been crowing a lot.. Well, ok.. TRYING to crow.. lol... I had them out free ranging today and he walked up to one of the girls and mounted the GROUND!!!! Ummm.... What's up with that?!?!? He was not dust bathing.. He grabbed onto one of the many weed roots with his beak, and started pushing his bottom on the ground.. Just like he would have done if he was on top of the female... Please tell me my roo does not have some kind of freaky fettish or something!!!

I have never seen it happen, but I can imagine it. You can see that they are just eat up with it and can hardly control themselves when they do get a hold of a hen. Imagine that he wants it that bad and cannot have it...... Then that dastardly weed had to go and be all chicken looking with its long slender neck and all.....

ROFL!!! OMG this topic is cracking me up!!! I do have to admit though, the roots in our yard DO look like chicken feet.. When we first got the chickens and I found one of them running around with one in their mouth, i thought they bit the foot off of the other.. Then I realized it was one of the roots... They LOVE to dig down deep in the run and munch on them all the time.. I have no clue as to what they are.. It's just some kind of weedy grass.. Almost like really thick vines running all through the yard..
