Is this pasty butt????

I clean up chick butts by running warm to the touch water over the rear end of the chick. I put on a disposable glove and massage the poo until it softens. DO NOT pull on the poo, this can cause umbilical issues. Once all the poo is gone. Pat the chick dry and blow dry the rest of the way. I skip the blow drying because I have a heater plate which gets the chick nice and dry in 15-20 min without the loud noise, but with a heat lamp, the chick will need to be blown dry.

I was wondering why after patting the chick dry ...why the heat lamp wouldn't dry her off....is it the wet fluff on the chick make it more sensitive to the heat?

Wet chicks can get easily chilled. It is harder for them to dry off under a heat lamp then under a heater plate. So, they are more likely to get chilled under a lamp.
