Is this scaly leg mites?

Don't wanna rain on your parade mysunwolf, but I don't really see any signs of scaly leg mites.

And I did the vaseline thing. And I always forget that everything will be covered in vaseline until the next morning when I want to check for eggs. Trying to open a door, door slips out of my hands. Grmbl.

Hehehehe, this exact thing happened to me when I was trying to clean the coop today--I usually lean on the roosts for support, and today I plopped my hand on one and got a sticky mess. It's ridiculous.

I only assumed it was scaly leg mites because one of the girls (the middle pic of black feathers and slate legs) had perfectly smooth pullet legs when I bought her a few months ago, and judt recently the place where her toes join her leg became scaly, raised, dull (instead of shiny), rough. I thought that was cause enough to do the whole flock of 8, even though only 4 of the hens showed any raised scales at all... figured better safe than sorry. My Faverolles has it the worst, but I couldn't get a picture of her legs

I really would love more pictures of moderate scaly leg, can't seem to find many and that makes it hard to actually know one way or the other.

Hi I was in my coop today and i seen one of my hens with scaly legs and feet ....i think it might be mites ....but will their comb get dry and flop over ? there are no other hens that look this way.

She is still eating and walking round.

Mines' combs were still in perfect shape while they had scaly leg mites. At the bare minimum your bird might just be dehydrated or overheated but since you'r in canada I would think overheating isn't a problem! But as long as your chicken is not lethargic or pale she shouldn't bee to sick! If she does get pale, stops eating and walking around there is something seriously wrong and you might want some advice from one of the vets here on this forum.
Hope this helps a bit!
Good luck with your hen!

I have scaly leg mites on mine as well. We are also dealing with a lice/mite problem. My rooster had broken feathers so bad that his "cape" is no longer silver....it is black. I treated with .05 ml of noromectin on the back of their necks two days ago and will spray the coop today. What are your thoughts on the noromectin as a treatment for the scaly leg mites?

I have never used nor heard or noromectin so I can't give any advise. This is quite a old thread. Maybe you'll have better answers if you create a new thread for your question! Good luck

I created a new thread and got zero responses on that one. Noromectin is generic for ivermectin.

Sorry that I haven't replied for so long but I was busy writing exams in school! You probably already found an answer and treated your chicken but just using vaseline works fine I suppose. My rooster still has the scales looking weird but it's not getting worse so I hope new scales will grow back!
