Is this story going to have a sad ending?

So glad they are home and safe! Lovely little chicks!
Loud constant peeping is a sign of stress. If they are all huddled on top of each other it means they are cold. Spreading out and laying around with wings spread, too warm.
And some just peep alot..lol
If you think they're just peepers, try hanging a feather duster so that the tips of the feathers are touching the bottom of the brooder. Sometimes I've had to put a couple under it, to show em its OK. Usually they find their way under by themselves. Either way, I have found it to settle those that are just peepers.. Just a tip. :)

So happy you got them home! There are different kinds of peeping. Loud, persistent peeping (and I mean LOUD) may indicate discomfort. The best thing to do is watch them. If they are huddled under the heat source, peeping loudly they are likely too cold. If they are crowded as far as they can get away from the heat source, they're probably too warm. Adjust accordingly. There are also the happy, contented soft peeps. I love that sound!

That is amazing!

Thanks, but not really amazing.... it's just simple biology! The whole purpose is to imitate Mama Broody Hen, and she doesn't sit on them 24/7 or have a light bulb under her wings. They get chilled or spooked, they dash under her for a warm-up or a little security. The rest of the time they are out exploring and learning, even when temps are cold and there's snow on the ground. When it starts to get dark, they head for the food and water and fill up, then go underneath, on top of, or tuck in beside her and go to sleep - all night long. Then when the sun comes up the next morning, they are back at it.
