Is this the "egg squat dance" pullet's do before they lay??? PICS

REALLY!?!?! Then I DO think it's one of my reds that's laying. She does that when I go to pet her. She's gotten VERY friendly in the past week, squats & kinda flattens her back. COOL!

Yes that is it. I have one 21 week old RIR hen that is laying for a week now and she started the squat thing about 1 week before the eggs started to come. Now I have the rest of the girls doing the same thing. I hope they start laying soon! When they squat I scratch theirs backs just above the tail for 4 or 5 seconds. When they stand back up they fluff all of their feathers up and walk away a very happy hen. .

My hens don't seem to be as friendly as all of yours

I can squat down and feed them by hand no prob, but they run when I try to touch them at all... I don't go fast, or over their head. Just a nice slow hand, and no one lets me (willingly lol!).
Will they get a little friendlier when laying? Their 19 weeks, 2 RIR, 2 Australorps, 2 EE's, and 2 Barred Rocks.

All of our chickens have been handled every day by my 6 year old son and the rest of the family since they were 1 day old. So they are very comfortable being held. They feel safe. But I did notice they became more friendly just before the eggs started. If you want to have a more friendly flock spend as much time around them as you can.

My golden star matured earlier than the other girls (of course) and has been doing the squat dance for about 1 week. She flattens her back and lifts her wings, but she also stomps in place really fast for a couple of seconds. So funny! I keep lookin' for that first egg! Then I can do an egg dance too!

It's just me and my DH, and we desperately tried to handle them as much as possible, but even when they were chicks they screamed. So everyday after work I have a glass of wine and sit with my hens in the run. They brush up against me, they peck at my feet, and seem to not mind me one bit... but if I try to reach out for them - forget it. I'll just have to be persistant and hopeful I guess:)
