Hi,

Just as we have started getting on top of one problem, I think another has started :(. Could you confirm that this is the start of bumblefoot? If so, do I treat it in the same way as described in other posts e.g. soaking, wrapping, pulling off scab and applying cream?

My other duck has a slightly raised bump but has a slight dot in the middle of it. Could this be bumbefoot or pressure sores from walking on hard ground? Unfortunately, because my other duck has been really poorly, they have been using hardstanding because that is next to their deep litter bed.

Bumblefoot is a staph infection. Usually, it presents with swelling of tissue and a black scab. What we have here could be the very start of a staph infection, yet not a full blown case.

I would soak in Epsom salts and a wound cleaner or dish detergent as you would with bumblefoot, then apply antibacterial ointment a couple times a day. No need to remove a scab unless it turns black and crusty. A thin tan scab is normal and should resolve in a few days.
