Is this true

Okay...for people who understand chickens, it does seem like a dumb question. But, for those people who have never thought about it, they see an egg as always fertile -- never infertile -- like having a baby.

When I explained to some co-workers it is really just like their 'eggs', the light went on. It really is that people don't think that way.
 
Certainly, I would use tact when answering a question like that, but really, would anyone ever think that a female dog must have a male dog around in order to go into heat? No, she just does it anyway, whether or not there is a male to mate with. Seems like there are lots of misinformation in regard to roosters in general, I know, but it's just basic biology. Old farmer types, even after raising chickens for years, still adhere to some old wives tales, or rather, old farmers tales, LOL.
