:eek:ff to check quail egg thread:

Miss Lydia- thanks!! He's very close now. His beak and one foot are all hanging out the hole. But he still seems in good spirits. He looks like a velociraptor trying to hatch!

Well, last one is out. It ended up with its entire beak and most of one leg out and was grasping the screen, spinning in fast circles, nothing to use as leverage inside. So I broke him out, basically. I'd do a little, let him try.. chip away a little more, let him try.. ended up even having to tear the membrane for him bc he didn't even have enough leverage to do that. It's weird, it's like he was all contorted in there, maybe from getting the one leg stuck? One eye is swollen shut, I assume from being smushed against the shell for so long, but I did see it open as he came out so I know it's at least there. ;)

Anyway, he's crashing around everywhere in there.. peeping and crashing over all the other egg shells. His neck seems a bit contorted but is getting better by the minute as he fights to get around. I'm hoping he just had a really rough hatch. When the time came I decided he'd go on for hours and eventually just die if I didn't help, I decided to help. Didn't have the "I probably shouldn't be doing this" feeling, so...

So! Hatch '13 #1, complete. Thanks for your input and help! I'll probably still use this thread for pics and such, instead of starting a new one. :)

Sounds like you definitely did the right thing, his neck being a bit funny and his proves that he needed out of there, ya sally is like the mama hen when it comes to hatching chickens and such lol :) i noticed that i got some of those ovation thingys i didn't see them before because i always use my mobile device and it doesn't show up on that, i don't have a clue what they are :/ but guessing there good so i gave them to you and miss lydia for your help. Id say that duckling is going to grow up a bruiser after the mammoth attempt he made to break out of that shell lol :)

Yay I will be gone for most of the day but had to make sure all was well in duckdom first... Congrats on hatch and getting last duckling out before batoer was destroyed. lol

Baby made it thru the night!! I had my wondering.. He was still very uncoordinated when I went to bed, had tried separating him from the others bc they were like, WTHeck is his problem! But he was just too hysterical. Couldn't be still. So once the others seemed settle I put him on top of them. This morning he appears on the same level as the others. :)

Rooster wasn't looking to hot this morning :( the bleeding must have started up again after last night and his nostrils had been covered with gooey blood, did some research on this site and apparently chickens blood doesn't clot and stop very easily. After finding his nostrils again (was starting to think he didn't have any) I tried everything flour, corn starch, cold water e.t.c. Until i was down to my last option cauterising. After that the bleeding stopped mostly but there is still a little bit of bleeding I'm just going to let him rest for a bit after traumatising the poor thing and see how it goes. :/
