Is tubing helpful or prolonging the inevitable

Well she's been drinking really good. She ate some potato salad today. She still flings the pellets. AND her leg had been totally like a dish rag. Today she actually tried to put some weight on it. She holds it up herself. That's pretty promising. So I'm really eager to feed her now and get her a jump start. I read about using a pair of girl's underwear as a sling. Hmmm. Maybe my black ones, LOL

4.6.1. Refeeding syndrome

Severe electrolyte and fluid shifts associated with metabolic abnormalities in malnourished patients undergoing “refeeding”, whether orally, parenterally, or enterally. Phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium shift to intracellular space leading to sudden drops in serum levels.

  • Clinical signs are varied, including neurologic dysfunction and cardiac arrhythmias
  • Do not offer emaciated animals (TS < 1.0) whole food initially
  • Always rehydrate animal first
  • Give B vitamins
  • Give oral electrolytes first
  • Tubefeed formula low in carbohydrates, high in fat with adequate protein
  • If the patient is digesting the formula, move gradually on to easily digestible solid food

She's getting the Kaytee, I'm trying to get 30 ml 3x a day tubed. I added a raw egg to it. I know potato salad (eggy) is not great but she flings her pellets, and I just want to get some calories in her no matter what she'll eat. I even tried Kaytee mush and no luck. She has drank a goodly amount every day.

Thanks for the support.
