Is Tweety Recovered?

why won't these bubbles stop?

and what can i do to stop them? i'm afraid this is bacterial gas but it could just be the sinuses draining. its been a month, but, it is just now that the swelling of the sinus area is gone?

Looking for an idea to stop bubbles from an experienced person. someone who knows what this is and what i can do.

does anyone know what the bubbles indicate? another occular infection? or sinus infection? is it normal after a bad sinus infection?

Bump. hoping for a person who knows what is causing the bubbles.

to date, the swelling is all but gone. plenty of clear discharge. bird has maintained strength and seems happy.

if the photo is a little difficult to make out: the bubbles are in the lower right of eye socket. dried exudate/feather matting below the eye.

if another photo is needed plz let me know. we'll wrestle the little tiger down and have one posted.

Sorry... I just don't know? Wish someone on here did! In the meantime, as long as he's doing well otherwise, I'd just keep it clean and let time do it's best. Can't a mild epsom salt/water solution be used to flush the eye? Maybe try that every day? Don't take my word for it... just a thought in the back of my mind. Maybe google epsom salt eye wash? Best I can do. Tweety has done so well so far. Continued luck!

mmaddie's mom -
Thank you!

i'm hoping a local person calls me back. he knows everything about chickens but he must be too busy. the local vet is good but costs $. if it is something like an ocular infection i'll use EZ Puffer and if it is nothing, i'll know it is okay.

i'll keep perusing the Mississippi state U. website for info.

I did find this in answer to the question, "Can Epsom Salts be used as an eye wash?"

"As children whenever we had conjunctivitis mother mixed up Epsom Salts in tepid water to bath our eyes. I have used this eye wash on my dogs when they have had sore eyes. I use pre-boiled water that has cooled then add ½ teaspoon Epsom salts to 1 cup water. I then drizzle the wash over the eyeball. You must be very careful to make sure the water is of good quality and is sterile by boiling it and then letting it cool. Alternatively make a saline mix using normal table salt at the rate of 1 teaspoon to 1 litre of boiled, cooled water to flush the eye."

If you find nothing else, maybe this will help?

mmaddie's mom -

right, i've gargled with warm salt water to clear up a soar throat. it removed much of the phlegm. disgusting, sorry.

we'll probably try it tonight or tomorrow as it couldn't hurt.

the bubbles are surely coming from a duct/gland. either avian or bacterial.

i'll let you know as i'm pretty sure if warm salt water dripped into eye doesn't clean it, i'll put more effort into this prognosis.

mmaddies mom - we just poured warm salt water over his eye. the salt water washed away the bubble, I THINK. But, he was cool for about one second then exploded into a fit. we also wormed him, trimmed his beak, cut some feathers off his brows and cheeks. after all that we noticed bigger bubbles were coming out. so, maybe the warm salt water will work! i thought about puffing him w/ the antiobiotic, nfs puffer (not EZ puffer as i thought), but opted to delay that until i've done some research at the mississippi state U. animal science or vet dept websites

THANKS mmaddies mom
