is whiny dead??UPDATE!!!SHE DIED ):

I just tried the sugar water, the only sign of life she is giving that she does open and close her mouth from time to time. Besides that she is not moving, and I can't see that she is breathing, I am guessing it is a reflex to open her mouth.

Does anyone know??

I know that if she is not breathing she is dead, but I'd hate to just not be seeing it!

If she is still opening her mouth she is not dead. She may also be breathing very shallow, so shallow that you cannot see it. Hold her nostrils close to your face for a few seconds. Sometimes you can feel the air flow on your face coming from their nostrils. She sounds like she is still clinging to life. Comfort her, and if she is still respondi ng, offer her tiny drips of sugar water. Tiny amounts so that she will not choke on it. I'm sorry I can't offer you any advice on what is wrong.

thanks, I will keep giving her sugar water, since that is the only thing I know to do right now. Thanks so much, Sparrow for the advice. What is the right amount of sugar water? and how frequently? I just have been doing several drops from m finger into her beak every 15 min or so, is that right??

Yep, I wouldn't give her much more than that, especially at a time. There is a big risk of her aspirating the liquid and choking since she is otherwise unresponsive if she takes in more than a few drops. Does she swallow it? Will she open her eyes? Are her pupils dilated or pinpoint? Are they responsive to light and movement? I'm really curious about what's happening to your bird.

Okay, I will keep at it then. I am not sure if she swallows or not. I almost think she could be opening her beak o breathe...uh, but not sure. She has not opened her eyes at all, since I found her like this this morning. So, no her eyes are not responsive at all.

THANKS, Sparrow for your sweet concern for Whinny!!Thank you.

Im sorry, but i don't think she'll make it. you can try and keep her warm, that helps. Just watch her through the night, maybe she'll get better. Try offering her some food, too.

I do know that if I do all that I can I will feel better about it all though. Thanks t-dawg, I can't see any way of getting food into her at her current state though...but I'll keep my fingers crossed!
