is whiny dead??UPDATE!!!SHE DIED ):

UPDATE ON WHINY!

I just gave her a second dose of food and electrolytes! I am using a dropper and trying to go slow enough for her to swallow. She seems to be better at letting me feed her now, which is incredibly encouraging:lol:.

Thanks again you chicken folK!!!! Great work!

what does it mean if she is spiting up a little after i give her water? Not a lot, but I can tell it is the electrolytes I am giving her and saliva. Does it mean she is drinking too much???

She didn't by any chance bump her crop after she drank? As I know that will happen with baby parrots sometimes. If not it might be a little too much water at a time.

Sorry to butt in, I've been following since yesterday, you were getting such great advice that I just lurked. I had a Barred Rock that looked DOA on arrival and followed a similar journey as your Whiny, thought for sure he was gone, but he made it and grew up to be a handsome, spoiled guy.

Positive energy sent to you and Whiny for continued improvement.

I am always happy to have some input in this insane journey.

It totaly could have been that. I was actually going to ask about the crop, I knew food went there, but water does too??? Hers is nice and full right now, and I am guessing it would have to be with water, since I haven't given her THAT much food.

What do you think??
Oh, and is it supposed to be soft? for some reason I was under the impression it would be hard! But I think I was also thinking of the gizard where the grit goes....

There is so much to learn!!!!!

To tell you the truth, I am not sure. I have never felt a chicken crop with just fluid in it. I know the grown birds after a day of stuffing themselves will have a pretty hard crop.

But the parrot babies that I used to feed with runny formula would have a crop that felt more like a water balloon. So I would think on her liquid diet right now that it might be spongy feeling if the knowledge from parrots crosses over to chickens.

I also know if I unintentionally bump them or they try to get away too fast and bump themselves they will spit up fluid or formula.

Okay, I bet that is what it was since she was struggling to get away when it happened...I probably squeezed her. And yes, hers feels like a water balloon!!!

I am just to happy that if it is like that it is obvious that something is getting in her!!!!!

UPDATE ON WHINY!!!!!
As of 9:55 Pacific time....whiny is drinking on her own, from her waterer!!!!! She is very thirsty!!! Also, she headed over to eat regular medicated chick feed as well, since that is the feeder she recognizes....but she seemed to have a harder time with that.

Question: the water that I keep in there, should I have the water with electrolytes and vitamins (DURVET), since I know she is dehydrated that is what I did once she started drinking I filled it with that.....maybe I am wrong, and should just have regular water in there? Is it bad for her to get too much of the electrolytes stuff?? I feel better knowing that even if she isn't eating very well, at least her water has a little more *UMPH* in it, but maybe it is harmful.

Let me know what you think you all knowing chicken folk!!!

This is a HUGE step for me and for whiny as I feel better about her gauging rather than me trying to figure out what she needs!!! we are both very happy.

PS! I know that I still really need to watch out for her and make sure she really is drinking and eating. I am just happy that she is getting there....step by step.

Eating and drinking on her own is a wonderful sign. Yes, keep the water with the electrolytes/vit in there for her. Try wetting the chick feed - it makes it easier to eat and also provides hydration - plus mine love it wet. Just moisten it.

Good news. You've done a great job. I know it has taken a lot of work hand watering her all this time.
