Is worming necessary?

I give my chickens ACV once a week... 1 TBS per gallon. It makes it so your chickens system is undesirable to worms. I use this on my dogs too (they've never had any worm our oldest is 9).

When you worm with medication, you can't eat the eggs.

I feel like giving meds for no reason, isn't very healthy. But to each their own... We all do things different![/if you cant eat the eggs does that mean the chicks should not be hatched?

Worming chickens does not prevent worms. The chicken either has, or hasn't got them.
Worms are not a problem until they reach a certain amount generally speaking.
Routine worming is not only a waste of time but it also reduces the effectiveness of the medication over time. The worms become immune to it.
I worm when a hen looks sick and I've had a fecal float done.

My hens have full access to my fully fence quarter acre and I give them their normal feed plus treats that consist of raw fruit, vegetables and sometimes raw meat. My soil is a combination volcanic rock, sand and clay mixture and wild birds abound. I proactively worm my flock 2 to 3 times a year as veterinary services are hard to come by for any animals, but avian veterinary medicine isn't even considered a specialty here... simply unavailable. I'd rather cure them of worms and not need it, than not medicate them and have them get sick & die. Pretty much dependent upon the feed store's medical department (no vets, just employees that recommend medicines based on your description of a problem). I keep medicine on hand, because the store may or may not have the medicine you need, and if they're out of what you need, they may be out for several months. I agree that treating with the same meds repeatedly causes resistant worms, and so I'm careful to rotate which medicines I'm using (if at all possible). Animal husbandry is different when you don't live in a First-World nation.

They're sprayed daily with dog friendly mosquito repellent and their 2 acres are sprayed for mosquitoes. They're tested for it during their yearly exam.

I'm sorry if I started something. I will question my veterinarian since it's where I heard it...

I use my Drs treatments for heartworm preventative. Their 2 acres are sprayed for mosquitoes and I have dog formulated mosquito repellent the vet offers I spray them with. All are tested for heartworm yearly.

I only recently began doing this when I added goats to my little farm. Main ingredients are black walnut hull powder, cayenne pepper, garlic, and wormwood. Again, this is more of a preventative measure than anything else. I would still use a chemical wormer with a nasty case if it came up.
I free range exclusively and have never seen a sign of worms in my flock. Doesn't mean they aren't there, but it hasn't been a problem thus far.

ACV is not worm medication. It won't treat worms, and it isn't a cure all.

I'm not sure who said it was worm medicine... I did say it makes the system undesirable to worms. You say unappealing and that's pretty much what I was saying...

I have not had worms either so why treat them with meds if they show zero signs of worms... Treating for something that's not there to me seems unhealthy
