The moon
I noticed someone wondering about this and I just wanted to say something about it. It is an act of submission. A hen will often crouch when approached by a rooster, and move her tail to one side and allow the rooster to mate with her. If you come by and either walk by or reach down to pet her, she may do this to you as well.

Since my rooster died my hens do it more often to me. To the point where they stop right in front of me and do it and I have to try and stop myself from falling over them .

ObLaDa has always squatted before me, even when I had a Rooster. In fact she squeezes through the gate when I open it just so she can squat at my feet, like a greeting! Now that Chaz has passed Braveheart has started doing that too.
I take it as a hello kiss. :love
