My ISA's complain all the time. 3 of them are 3 years old and 1 is 1 1/2. They sure do not like to share and are very mean to my RIR hen, White Pheonix hen and my SLW....they even run off my Roo. The only time the seemed happy is when they knocked a beer off the table and managed to sip a bit before I caught them.

I was wondering if any one knows where to get the isa whites in the usa they lay white eggs?

The ISA White is merely a specially bred, Leghorn based layer. I do not know if those are indeed available in the US.

However, there certainly are a BUNCH of Leghorn based, white egg layers that are available. Sometimes, they go by names that help market them and make them appear to be "special" or unique. Thus, it is quite possible that some of these white egg laying, commercial, Leghorn based birds are being sold here, just under other names.

There are a couple dozen poultry genetics corporations who sell parent stock to hatcheries, both commercial and the smaller, retail type hatcheries often spoken about here on BYC. All of which sell various and sundry varieties of Leghorn based layers.

Do you or any one happen to know what it qould cost to invest in a breeding pair? Also or do you have any suggestions on the most productive utility strain of heratige birds (that lay white) and how would someone find a utility strain instead of what ive seen as mainly for show birds thanks!

Just about any hatchery has some utility grade Leghorns or Leghorn based strains to choose from. Not hard to find. Personally, I'd prefer a high quality, heritage Leghorn, but they are much, much harder to come by. It would take some research to find a good breeder of quality, heritage Leghorns.

I think there is a BYC thread on Old Fashioned Leghorns or Heritage Leghorns. Hmmmm have to find that thread.

Well its my understanding that hatchery chics are not selected for any thing just bread and sold and so no improve ment in any direction is ever done i think what i would want is a breeder who is breeding for better egg laying qualities if there is such a person in the us ive seen alot for the uk i live in kansas too far from the uk for that to help but i havent found or mabye i just dont know where to go to locate someone breeding for utility rather than show

I agree. Leghorn is the way to go if you are looking for white egg layers.

This beauty was dropped off near our house and abandoned. I think he is a ISA-Brown cockerel or a red sex-link cockerel - unless someone has another suggestion. He is extremely affectionate, calm and gentle. He was cooperative with his bath and beak clipping and lets us handle and carry him all around. He is healthy (though thin) and has no parasites. He is much friendlier than even our hand-raised hen pets, and comes over to us and peeps when we talk to him, but unfortunately we cannot keep him. Our neighbors will protest and since they are our chicken-sitters, we need to find a good home fast, before he finds his voice. He is the sweetest bird. Does anyone know anyone who would give him a good home? He has the best personality and would make a great pet. Lake Erie region- PA.
