Isbar thread

Pics
Looks a lot like one of my (younger) juvenile Isbars and similar color pattern, except his base color is blue. Heehee, the Legbar pullets, in the second photo, look like a bad hair day.

The new line has a LOT more variability right now. I will post a pic of some of mine later (I posted some a few pages back too). I have concerns about if they have maybe been outcrossed ( either here in the US, or in Sweden before they were imported).

Almost all of mine have red or grey-green eyes. I have several roosters with pea combs. Several look like black/blue copper Marans ( by color more than type). And one lays brown eggs.

But my rooster is gorgeous. So I'm a little torn as to how I went to proceed.
He is a nice looking roo. I was looking back in the thread and noticed that you ordered 5 Isbars from GFF, but received 15 chicks. Did you receive at least 5 that appear to be pure Isbar? Is it possible that GFF sent several chicks of other breeds or projects as packing peanuts? If so, the Isbars should have been marked so you could tell the difference. The 2 dark ones below look like BCM. I'd bet that dark pullet will lay dark brown eggs.

A few juveniles showing some of my concerns

I ordered black bresse got day olds July first and this is my roo. I have several other orders of bresse and a lot of them have black legs. I'm waiting to hear what GFF says but this look like a isbar right.

This one does look like a very handsome black Isbar cockerel. How big is he compared to your other breeds? Did you receive extras from GFF also?

Quite honestly, even if all these problem children turn out to be "packing peanuts", the fact that GFF includes them in the box without making it obvious which ones are the purebred chicks that were ordered is a huge problem. People order chicks expecting that what they receive are all purebred and then breed them not knowing the difference. This makes for a very muddled gene pool. Whatever the reason, GFF is not doing these rare breeds any favors by contributing to a muddled gene pool.

I received a box of 19 new-line Isbar chicks from GFF a couple of weeks ago. So far, I am not seeing any unusual traits showing up. The splash variety in the new line is considerably different than the original line and I am curious to see how they all feather out and what color eggs they lay.

I'm so pleased you like the Isbars enough to order them. How exciting.

To tell the truth, had I read about all the issues with the new line before I put in my bid, I might have waited a while.

I certainly hope that these chicks do not mature to be substantially different than the pictures and description that they posted with the auction...

I did not receive extras with that order. I ordered 6 chicks 3 black Bresse and 3 bielefelders. I then discovered RBA and won an auction for 12+ bresse with five guaranteed blue. One blue was DOA and one turned out to be splash only 3 blues total in the box including the DOA. Then I won a rare chick special with some more bresse included. Then they sent me more chicks to replace the DOA and missing blues. I ended up selling the 2 pullets from my origional order of 3. So this roo is my oldest of the "bresse". I don't know if the others might be Isbars and can't compar a weight. I do know I have a lot of bresse with black legs. If I knew these might be isbar I would not have sold them and hope who had them does not get upset. I wanted isbars but after seeing all the problems I might reconsider.

These were all Isbars. My one blue with the copper neck lays green eggs. The one that lays brown eggs actually looks the most like the old line of Isbars.
