Isolde's second clutch, HATCHED!--Update pg. 2

My momma ducks usually raise the babies with the rest of the flock - but I have a good daddy and my mommas are super protective.

Such adorable little ones

What a great mom.

Yeah not sure I would trust my drakes. One of them is naughty! I do think she'll be a great mom though.

You're so lucky to be able to raise them all together!

Mine all stay together but they have alot of room to stay out of each others way.. Sweet pics, congratulations. but I wouldn't split up mama and babies..

I don't intend to. She worked too hard to bring them into the world! I think I may put her and the babies into the dog run after a few days, so they have more space, and some outside time. Which means switching the ducks back into the little pen.

Or I can always just fence off a portion of the duck yard for them. We have about an acre yard fenced off for the flock now, so they have plenty of space.

Well as of this morning, there are 5 little buggers running around! 3 eggs left on the nest, one of which was bad. The other two still have not hatched, and one appears to be twins. Yikes. I find it funny, that not one of these babies turned out all Pekin, even though the drakes are Pekin and Swede. Maybe the hens favor the Swede, or could my Pekin be infertile??

Anyway, here's the babies so far! I think they're adorable! We've already named one Deuce (he/she has two spots on his head) and one Sparrow (because it looks like a pirate with eye patches).

I'm falling in love with these little guys, it's gonna be so rough finding some of them new homes. Maybe I will find a local BYC'er who wants some babies! lol
