It broke a brick...whatever it is, its big and its back. UPDATE!!!

Oh my goodness.

a bear... jes know I'll be praying for you sweetie!

You said bobcat? I'm thinking that, they are tremendously strong. Also, Black Bears strong but also extremely. If you sat outside a bear would elude you and your attempts to kill it, which may be illegal and may need a permit (which they probably wont give you for a couple of ducks, sorry.) Also, be wise with gun safety a rifle can go 3 miles and even a little .22 can go a mile.

It sounds more like a dog to me than an bear. Is it chicken wire? I've never heard of a bear digging it, usually they just bash and rip their way in. I think there would have been more damage if it was a bear. What ever it is, I think you should call animal control so that it is documented.

i know about bears, black bear-fight. never turn your back. grizzly-play dead, don't move, look harmless.
i also don't think it was a bear, the hole looked like something a member of the dog family would dig, not a bear and the bear could've easily gotten through the wire (its stronger than chicken wire, but still) and it dug under and up like a dog digging under a fence. i have my money on a coyote. not sure if bobcats would dig the same way, but just a couple weeks ago we had a huge one run through our front yard. if it was a bear, i wouldn't kill it myself, no worries. too big.

eta: nothing tried to get in last night. i went out around 8:30 just to close them in their house (they have a pen hooked up to it but the house is safer) and i was so worried i was gonna walk out there and have some wild animal right in the back and we'd end up surprising each other, which is never a good thing. when i went out this morning, nothing had dug around or anything.

Yup, a bear. You saw whar it did to the bricks, it can do the same to your house and worse if it wants in. Have your Dad get a BIG GUN from a friend and use it.

if you got a window that you can see the coup from it.... get a gun set it up and aim it and wait...wait .....and wait when you see the culprit shoot it [make sure the window is open] and if you are sensitive run or just let your dad shoot it

I personally doubt you have a bear. there woudl have been a bigger hole. And a bear will not bite a brick . That 'chip' could have easily happened from a coon or a dog digging and the brick hitting something. My guess is a dog or a BIG coon.

THEY'RE DEAD!!! WE KILLED THEM! it was two racoons, very young. they managed to get themselves into the pen somehow. we had to go to my sisters graduation, so i had put them in the connected house and pen (no racoon visitors yet), but had not put them in "lockdown" and locked them in their house like we do every night now. when we got home, my dad said he'd go lock them in, and he came running back telling me to get out there right away. i was so afraid. he grabbed his pellet gun and a pitch fork and told me to get a flashlight. we ran out and to our surprise, it was two racoons. my dad had locked the ducks (unknown status, no quacks heard and we didn't see them) in the house and the coons in the pen. we loaded the gun and shot away. 20 plus shots for each for them to die. we got one right in the face, it died shortly after. the screams though, were horrible. i was sad until i noticed that they possibly killed or injured my ducks and then i looked at my dad and said "shoot it again." the house is like fort knox and since we didn't want to go into the pen, it took my dad a while to get it open. he told me to wait in the house just in case. i called my boyfriend and my best friend and i sat there crying. i was on the phone with my best friend when i saw my dad come running back to the house. since he was running, i thought it would be bad. but he opened the door and screamed "wooo hoooo!! they're both okay!! both of them!" I was so happy and relieved and we ran outside to see them. we inspected them and no cuts or anything. they are completely fine and now the racoons are dead! obviously there are mommy and daddy racoons out there that will meet the same fate as the babies if they come around here.
