It Finally Happened New Egg layer!

Ruby and Scarlett look almost identical to Dottie. So I expect they will be Olive Eggers, which according to the hatchery website means they are likely a cross between Welsummers and Cream Legbars. Which makes sense because their coloring is similar to a Welsummer but they have small crests like the Legbars.

Jasmine is a pretty typical Easter Egger from what I have heard.

The crests are ADORABLE, right along w the floppy combs. I agree they look like Olive Eggers. Your 3rd one should be a nice surprise! & agree last one looks like EE. The wait to see the egg color feels like forever! 😊

My first eggs!!! My ISA Browns and Buff Orpington and Golden Comet and Starlight Green Egger have been laying for a month, and my Prairie Bluebell Egger just laid her first egg today!!!

ISA Brown and Golden comet (med brown, sometimes speckles), Buff Orpington (larger lighter brown), Starlight Green Egger (green!), and Prairie Bluebell Egger (light blue!). In person it's a bit less blue, you really have to hold it in a white papertowel to see it's blue. lots of calcium deposits on this egg. Hopefully more blue in future...

So excited!!!!!

Love the variety of colors

One of my new ones this year, pictured here, layed her first egg on Sunday, September 4th. Her name is Mazie, and she's a Buff Orpington. I noticed her checking out the nest box over the last week or so. Her egg is the small one next to Sadie's. Sadie is an Australorp and her eggs are much longer than ones the other hens lay. Today Mazie walked into the kitchen with her companion Braveheart, and sang her egg song for us.

Scarlett and Ruby both started laying this past week. Scarlett is laying a cream colored egg and Ruby is laying mint green. So I am up to 8 of 11 laying now.

It's funny to have three pullets who look almost identical but their eggs look so different.

Another new egg today, I think. Lol

It was a paper-thin shell, barely more than a softie. And the girls were playing “peck and chase” soccer with it right after they left the roost this morning so probably laid during the night. Most likely suspect is Coco as she has been exploring/sitting in the nest boxes for several days.

If it wasn’t her then it was probably Scarlett based on color. Will see what else I get today to narrow it down. Hoping this isn’t the “final” color unless it is from Scarlett. Don’t really want another cream egg-layer, hoping for more blue/green.

hopefully it isn't the final color for you so you can get another pretty color.

I know what you mean though. I was so excited to get an OE this year and she lays dark brown eggs........ which I don't have but was really looking forward to some olive green eggs. My EE from last year lays such pale blue eggs they look white most times but if in the right light they have a tint of blue. This year my EE lays a pretty teal that is a hint more on the green side. I have another EE that I am not keeping but still holding onto for the one getting her and she started laying and again is a pretty teal color but a hint more on the blue side. Sad she isn't mine to add more color to my basket. But still waiting for my cream legbar to lay so will hopefully have more pretty blue eggs!
