It has begun

Maybe I can talk the wife into a hatch for Easter?

Kids had a blast. Their first stop in the morning was to look in on the chicks.

For a temp brooder, I got some large, clear totes. They can watch them thru the sides.

There is always the Easter Hatch A long!

maybe time to start guessing breeds?

thought it was interesting:
yellow chicks have a dark spot on top of their heads.
have some almost black chicks, that have yellow spots on their heads.
then have the striped chicks
and some brownish chicks. here is a good feathered foot pic.

and yes, we have at least two bantam chicks, that are noticeably smaller.

I can't guess at any of them, but that little yellow one's beak is adorable!! Nicely feathered legs on that other one too.

Chicks in order of hatch:

This one on the bottom is the only one with feathered legs, it's much fluffier than the rest.
these two. have any idea on breed, or mix that made them?

I have a few, that are dead ringers for these......

seems like I read somewhere, that the dark chicks, with the yellow dot indicates a sex link pairing? same thing with the striped ones?

okay, I asked the nice lady that sold me the eggs.......

quote" We've got a great variety of chickens - welsummer, wyandotte, ameraucana, barred rocks, cochin, marans, fayoumi, barnevelder, australorps, brahmas, sussex, orpingtons, Rhode Island reds, Houdan, campine, and lakenvelder. The roosters are cochin, Rhode Island Red, Maran, Plymouth Rock."

good lawd, there's no telling, except for the feathered feet chicks......have some cochin in them.

Marans should have feathered legs, too.
oh screw it then...........lol

I'll just separate to bantam and chicken.....

guess I need to start looking for some local eggs of breeds we want to hatch. maybe try some ducks while we are looking..........

Do they all range together? And did she mention which breeds she has bantams in?
