It HURTS!!!!!!!!

My 81 yr old dad has it really bad. The itching was horrible and the dermatologist told my sister to lather him in Vaseline a couple times a day and they gave him an antihistime. It's has helped so much.

My oldest daughter had eczema as a baby when she her asthma was really bad. Dr.'s Children's Hospital told me that eczema most of the time goes along with asthma. When she outgrew her asthma her eczeme went away.

I would mix up powdered milk, ground oatmeal, grapeseed oil and put in the bath and let him soak. Grapeseed oil is good to hold the moisture into the skin.

Hugs to you and your son!!!

I feel for you both...my nephew has it also. but I can't offer any remedies at the moment, but can offer you massive (((HUGS))) and pray that he feels better soon......keep us all posted as to how he is.........xxxx

I have a skin condition called keratosis. It's where the skin develops very unsightly hard calcified spots that don't wear evenly with the rest of my skin. They at times become very itchy and drive me nuts. I've had this condition for 30 years and have been to numerous skin specialists and tried just about everything. The doctors have all prescribed little tubes of very expensive ointment that has helped marginally. What I now use is Dionne's Udder Balm with Frost Protection and it works better than anything I have tried. A friend tried it on his eczema and the redness abated substantially. If I use it daily the spots quit itching and almost disappear. You might try it and see if it helps. I get mine at Tractor Supply. I hope you find something that helps your son.

My DH (a farmer) also uses Udder Balm on his hands.....you would not believe this is a man who has farmed all of his life..his hands ae soft and uncallused he swears by the Udder balm........

I'm so sorry he suffers with that. I know that it must be so frustrating not to be able to make it go away.

poor kid

one of my best friends has a little girl who just turned one.
since birth this baby has had the absolute worse case of eczema I have ever seen on a child.
They have brought her to the dermatologist more than once to be told she will "just have to grow out of it" But the poor thing is SO uncomfortable.
I think last time I saw her(winter bites) she was trying some type of over the counter oatmeal stuff. Not aveeno, something else. and it was actually helping.

It really seems like there are a LOT of children who suffer with this. I know how much it has to hurt since it covers so much of your body. Mine seems to be feeling fine this morning even though his skin still LOOKS awful. I honestly think he is so used to it he doesn't notice when he is up and playing.

I agree with the Aquafor ointment. I've never seen anything heal up skin irritations so fast...and I'm a nurse!

The "black box warnings" on prescription drugs are pretty important. Good you aren't having to use the Elidel.

I personally think the very best emollient is Crisco....even better than Vaseline!

You know, I have actually used crisco. That was when he was younger and it was at its worst. It did make a difference.

I will have to try the Aquafor. I just want SOMETHING that can keep him from hurting so much.

Are you the person who said you keep the house at 80-85 degrees? I can't remember for sure.

If so, turning the thermostat way down may help alot. The hotter air is, the more dry it is, and the less humidity it will hold - even with your humidifier running. We have someone in the household with a tracheotomy and have to keep her humidified. Turning up the heater just from 68 to 72 makes a huge difference in how much moisture we can keep in the air. This is especially true if you have forced air heat, which is extremely drying.

I have eczema in the winter & skin that dries and cracks on my feet and hands, and the forced air heat drives me crazy... We ended up putting in floor heat in the new part of the house, and that's much more comfortable for me than having hot dry air blowing around.

Edited for grammar
