I will try to get a picture. It looks like the chord that was on it has dried up. I know that there was a lot of goop in the egg and I don't know if that was pulled loose or not. I will take a picture, and get one of its foot too. It is curled in.

Here are the pictures:

Well I am packing up the incubator and the little fellow and taking him home with me tonight. I'm not leaving him at school. I think I will take an eye dropper and try to give him some electrolytes tonight. I warmed my car up so I think he will be fine. It is a 5 minute drive to my house. He is sure trying to get up and get around.

the reason his foot is curled is because you "helped" it out of the shell .. It was still absorbing the yolk, like a couple of us told you.. Now you want to "help" it again.. I am sorry, I am not an enabler.. You made a big mistake.. learn from it.. I do not feel sorry for you,, I DO feel sorry for the duck.. I hope you learned something from this..

Tia, I made the same mistake with a chicken. He didn't make it, becuase of my impatience. But, everything

happens for a reason, and we learn from mistakes, so take this as a lesson.

If he is mean't to be, he will

survive. Keep him warm, and leave him be. The worst thing you can do is fiddle and mess with him, as he is

very weak, and needs to rest.

Some people just are like that. Don't get upset with the hateful words. You learned a lesson as we all do at one time or another. I've done the same thing. This is what I would do now. I would clip that cord as close as I could so it don't catch on anything. The rest will fall off in time. When you get home, get it back in the bator and keep it warm and just leave it be for a while. I'm betting it will be fine given time. Just let it rest. I put some of that rubber like shelf liner on the floor of the bator and in my brooders when there is a chick having trouble with it's legs. They can grip better and won't get spraddle leg. Using newspaper or paper towel is too slick and their feet can't get up under them to get going. Other than that just leave it be. I wish you and your duckling luck.'

I had to help my gosling because it was getting shrink wrapped in the egg. It came out with the yolk still not absorbed because it wasnt ready to come out just yet. I made the choice to risk it because it would have suffocated with the shrink wrapping. She is doing okay now. Its been 6 days and she has a very small lump left on her belly that I hope will clear up in the next few days. Generally, I dont help them out. Even if its taking what seems to be forever. Keep checking on them. If they are still moving around, leave them alone. I've had baby chicks take over 24 hours to finish zipping. If you help them out too soon you could tear membrane that still has blood flow.

those and these are not hatful words.. just stop and think. read some of the former posts.. which post was the one you should have listened to. now, I am not mad at you.. I only state it as I see it.. now you have people telling you to do all soorts of things that you should not do.. from your past actions, I know you will take all that bad advice and do more damage to the poor duck..

Do not cut anything off of it.. You are not a vet nor a surgion. Neither are the people who tell you such things..

Do not cover it with paper towel.. and do not spray it with water.
There are a host of reasons why not.. just don't do those things..

I have been doing this for over 40 years.. some of these advice givers have barely finished with their first hatching..

the fact is right now your duck has a poor chance of survival.. I am not trying to be mean.. that is just how it turned out..

The people who are attacking me are the ones who should be ashamed, as they are the ones who told you to go ahead and "help" the duck..
