It Missed Us and My Biddies!!!!!!!!

Ok, I think I've got at least one of my two nerves calmed down now. Will work on the other one later. Todays event:

Put together new temporary brooder for biddies as DW was leaving for art class. We were under thunderstorm and tornado watch until 4 p.m. Temp. was 75 degrees here.
Ready to move biddies when I noticed something in the weather didn't feel right. Went inside to see TV. Wow!
Tornado formed in the marsh about 15 SW of my home and moving in my general direction. Ugh Oh!
Tracked it on radar until it got to close for comfort. Grabbed biddies in plastic brooder box, jumped in truck, time to get outta Dodge. Raining to hard to see! Dang, what next?
Tornado touched down one mile from my house in marsh area. Third sighted touch down so far.
Suddenly realized that radar track put DW directly in projected path of tornado.

What to do now?
Called her cell phone to warn her. No answer! What?
Wanna guess where her cell phone is? Nope! Left it in car in parking lot. You have got to be kidding me woman!

Ladies, please don't do that to your DH. Please?
That little ole thing ain't that heavy that you can't carry it around.

After 30 minutes of continual calling she finally answers only because the alert sirens sounded and some person ran in shouting tornado.
She was able to make it to a safe shelter just minutes before the funnel cloud passed overhead. It touched down 5 times before leaving the area and thankfully not in a populated area. So far there have been no reports of any damage except for DW's feelings.

What a day this has been!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eeeek -- survived a tornado back when we lived NW of Oklahoma City, our house was the only one on the block still standing ... and we were mopping floors like crazy as water came in under the sills ... rental house, thankfully BRICK, the only only one on the block ...

water had to be over 2 feet deep outside, that's how high the sills were

no basement, we huddled in the hall closet ...

just one reason I was glad when we moved out of there

Candy

(so glad all that were hurt were feelings !)

Gosh Yogi, glad you and your DW are okay.
I (almost) always carry my cell phone and my blue tooth headset for driving. What my SO has to constantly nag me about is to go down in the storm cellar when things look dicey. It's spooky down there!
I know you don't drink, but what about a little 'medicinal tonic'?

DW almost always carries hers also but what good is that if she leaves it in the car out in the parking lot? I'm venting now so please don't interupt me. I'm out of snuff and in a really grumpy mood after all of that.

Tomorrow we are off to the phone company. She has both ears pierced, right? If they can't provide her with a necklace to wear that dang thing around her neck, she's gonna look strange wearing cell phone ear rings.
I tell her that she has a "one way" cell phone. I can never get her when I call. It only works when she needs to call.
I'll get down off of my soapbox now.

most cellphone carriers are awkward for women

get her one of those over the shoulder purses with a big enough compartment in the strap, for a cell phone ... rigid and well padded too !

Candy ... lost one off my belt, lost one clipped to my necklace, got one crushed in my coat pocket, damaged one clipped inside my conventional purse, one fell out of my pants pocket (female pockets often far smaller than male ...) grr

Yogi, might I suggest what my SO bought me for a cell phone carrier. I hated wearing mine when I had a regular carrier for it that would clip to my front pocket, because I carry my arms close to my body and was forever knocking it off. He got me a new carrier at walmart that has a carabiner (mountain climbing type) clip that hooks to my belt loop. It's made by samsonite and I've gotten good use outta it.

Just a thought. Kat - one woman that doesn't like to talk on the phone.

Would you believe, that is exactly what she has. But then, what good is that if she leaves her purse locked up in the car in the parking lot?

Can you even imagine the feeling when you suddenly realize that your loved one ( and I do mean loved one) is in the direct projected path of an approaching tornado and you can't warn them to take shelter?

I'm getting to old for that!
