I recall reading that too, that sultans had a very nice breast and made good meat birds. I have a few hens who are quite "puny" and are no where near the standard weight although my sultans are standards. Since I have been working on breeding sultans for colors I have crossed in a few different larger breeds. I figured why not go for some size as well as color. I really want the mille fleur color but that would be going backwards in size I currently have a "sultan" roo who's far larger than my white standard, he's barred and blue with splotches and some reddish colors. He is absolutely no color I can identify haha! He stands well above the standard rooster and he's a little bulkier. His mom is most likely a brahma/sultan. I also have a cochin/sultan hen and a shamo/sultan hen. I think my brahma mixed hen throws splashes too, I have two HUGE sultan splash pullets.

Anyway, although it seems off topic about these guys, they are the reason both of my incubators are full constantly and I have not set the chilled eggs yet. I'm getting a ton of eggs from the colored project birds and I have some results from them.

It's hard to devote incubator space to test eggs when this is what my young project birds are giving me
(no polish were used at all in my breeding program)

Well after pulling clear eggs (young roosters are not hitting the spot all the time) I had room to shove about a dozen refrigerated eggs into 2 incubators.

The eggs are about 3 weeks old and from my Old rooster who did hit the spot most of the time. The eggs sat in a bowl on the lowest shelf of my refrigerator, just over the veggie bins. This may or may not make a difference. The previous chilled eggs I hatched were nearly frozen, some I tossed were frozen and had cracked from the ice whites!

I had about 2 dozen to choose from so I picked the densest shells with good looking yolks to set. I will mark the chicks with sharpies or dye or something when they are born and will also attempt to feather and vent sex them (not experienced at this).

Just did a candle of the chilled eggs. There was no development in any. No early deaths, just failure to even start on all. It's most likely due to the amount of time I had refrigerated them.

It may be better to wait until my young roosters hit the spot closer to 100 percent of the time before I give this another try with less chill time.

a lot of people are having fertility problems in expericenced birds.. probably from the heat

It could be a little bit of the problem but most likely not all of it. The eggs probably were just too old.
