Itching duckling all over body

We have a single duckling that was rescued and incubated by my daughter. He/she is 2 weeks old. For the past few days it seems that it is itching a lot. Always biting him self and it looks like it’s getting bald spot.
We live in FL but the dog it’s currently indoor. We taking him to the yard everyday.

It’s the itching normal? If not, what should we do?

Have you let the duckling have some nice warm baths? that can help too and get the little one started on preening which will get the oils spread over it's downy feathers and help with itching. Start bath with warm water just up to top of legs and increase but always supervise so the little one doesn't get tired out and drown. It's normal for them to be itchy they start losing some of their down and it makes them look bald in places and then their pin feathers start coming in and that makes them itch, have you looked closely at the skin to make sure there aren't any mites? Most likely there aren't.

It may be a behavior caused by being on its own. I raised a rescued duckling last year and mine got very depressed -- lay in a corner and didn't move, eat or drink. I recognized a sad and lonely duckling and gave him a mirror immediately, and then kept him on the table in front of my laptop while I was working, so he had company with lots of physical contact. He thrived!

It's possible that biting itself and pulling out feathers is a neurotic response to being on its own. Can you spend a lot of time handling this little duckling and see if the biting stops?
