Its GONE!

I too am in my teens. We've got a whole "pet cemetary" here up in our pine grove. When we moved I even had them dig up the grave of my very first dog and bring him here. (He was wrapped up in thick thick plastic, with lots of layers, so it wasn't gross or anything."

I have a story kind of like yours. We had a duck hatch out 14 babies. One took a long time getting out of his shell and I went out after dark to check on him. He wasn't moving and we could not see him breathing. Then he twitched just a little. We brought him in and gave him electrolite water with a dropper, wrapped him in warm rags from the dryer and got him under a heat lamp. He was fine, but had a lot of trouble walking. He just couldn't use his legs very well. After a while he was fine, but way smaller than everyone else. We put him out with all his brothers and sisters, then brought him in at night. One day I went out and was calling for him (His name was Charlie) and I couldn't find him anywhere. I happened to glance down at the kiddy pool by my feet and saw him floating just under the surface. It was terrible and I blame myself for not checking on him earlier. He must have got in somehow and couldn't get back out, even though we had made steps with pieces of broken bricks.

I think the moral is, if they were truely meant to die they will die anyway. Kind of like the "Final Destination" philosophy.

Oh......there is no shame for loving some other living creature.... and losing .........then grieving ....no matter what. I am so sorry your feeling so sad right now.

It's a good moral, I guess. We hatched his only chick a few months before, so I'm glad I'll always have little bit of him in her.

I'm also interested in the Vet. business when it comes down to it. I don't want to make a living with just fowl, but all animals. I have quite a while to think about it, but helping them is what I want to do with m life. I mean, who doesn't want to say that they saved many lives one day? Okay, retorical question, but you know.

We got two little Muscovies from someone down the road and were happy to take them because the owner keep them with Mommy and most end up going to the Snapping turtles.

They're nice girls.

I have only one friend who is into livestock and when I told her about m sick male, when he was alive, she was like, "Yeah, I think he's gonna die." No one really got it. Its hard to talk to people who just don't understand, so I got you on the same page with that. I've cried over many of my animals before, so here's my moral to you: We're here, for one reason or another, but if we care that much, we're here for them. There's been several times I've been outside when predators 'show up' and I've gotten my guys and girls to safety. Nothing wrong with crying, it just shows you care and you're only human.

I hate when "friends" say something like that. There is this one girl who I get along great with, but she's not into animals the way I am. One day in class I was giving her an update on Charlie and she goes:

"You're stories are boring. I don't care about your duck or whatever! So please, no more updates."

That hurt me so much. Needless to say, she's only an "aquaintance" now.
