It's Official...

I only have all partially-pearled, non-pearled and a few pure White birds in this latest flock... my fully-pearled adults are the variety that hatch out the teddy bear keets with the blended down. There is one little guy in there somewhere that might be a heavily Pied Buff Dundotte with blended down, but it could be a heavily Pied Pastel. Not sure but I hope it is, it will be my first non-pearled keet for the season (and one in a new color). I'll know in a couple weeks when it feathers out.

I'm lazy, so here's a link to a previous post of mine about the pellet bedding:

Pine Pellet Bedding
Eggcellent Well worth the extra cost....

Thanks Peeps

these aren't guineas but thought peeps might like 1 IB 1 IB pied1 white and .6 java green peachicks and you jinx'd me peeps had 3 pearls hatch in the last round and 3 violets and instead of rubber bands I switched to pipe cleaners to lay the pea and turkey eggs on their side and secure them in. Cheap and disposable.

Pea Fowl? Oh....I love pea fowl. I want pea fowl...but can't have them (lack of space). But one day...one day....sigh.

I'm so envious guineaguy.

Cute! I had no idea Java peachicks hatched out so dark. Which one is the IB Pied? (sorry, I don't see any white flights or anything obvious). Are you increasing your flock size or selling these babies? I am only parting with one regular IB so far, as soon as I can figure out which is a Hen, but other than that I am hoarding all my PeaBabies that I hatch this season (it's my first season hatching them), lol.

Congrats on MacGyvering a way to set the Pea eggs on their sides. Right now I don't have the space to do that in my Turkey egg racks, but I'm going to stop setting Turkey eggs (I've hatched almost 100 poults already, LOL) to free up some room and then give it a try with setting some of the Pea eggs on their sides. My 2 young Hens are laying now too, but I don't think the cranky ol biddy Peahen is letting them get bred by the Peacock. I'll know in a week whether she needs to be caged for a while or not... lol.

No Pea eggs hatching this week, but I have a small batch of Guinea eggs and I think a dozen more Turkey eggs in the hatcher now... lots of pips and one hatched keet last time I checked.

The pied is the one with the bald spot which it was born with not sure if it's a bad sign or not. I'm keeping the peas til at least a year old I have purples bronze cameo white eyes and silver pieds and opals all hatching over the next 3 weeks and my purple pied bronze and indiablue pied hens just started laying they are in with a India blue black shoulder split to purple. So more to come lol I will keep all the javas til they mature before I decide what I do with them.

Oh have 10 turkeys hatching sat my first suppose to be bronze blk Spanish chocolate Spanish Narragansett royal palm blue slate bourbon reds he traded me 2 of all these colors but 10 developed so don't know what I'm getting til they pop out not that I'm going to be able to tel what's what lol

LOL, HATCH-O-HOLIC! You are going to need to build A LOT of new pens! That's cool that you are hatching Turkey Poults too! Most of those poults will be easy to ID but color/markings (IF the breeder separated the adults by color).

Your Peachick that hatched with the bald spot is a common thing... some say they do it to themselves in the egg while spinning around zipping and that the feathers do eventually grow back, some say it's a "birth defect". I haven't had it happen yet with any of mine so I can't say for sure.

Don't know if you saw my last Pied Peachick that I hatched out, but it's a cutie...

And I just hatched 26 more keets (and again... there's a ton of Blondes in this hatch, lol) and also 10 or 11 more Poults. Everybody is griping like crazy to get out of the hatcher every time I walk by, lol so I guess I need to deal with them soon. I'll try to get pics once I move everybody to brooders.

Peeps, what are the marbles in the food (?) bowl for?
Peachicks are a little dumb when they first hatch, (like Turkey Poults) and don't always start eating right away like keets do... marbles or anything shiny in the feed dish encourages them to start pecking... so they end up with food in their mouth and they figure out how to eat quicker.

Here's my latest hatch of keets... dominated by Blondes again, but there's a few more Coral Blues and Lite Blues (plus a couple Opalines) this time. Several Royal Purples too... but they may end up turning out as Bronze.
