It's pretty disgusting...

Mrs. Green Thumbs :

Just thought I stop back by and say Thanks to the OP for posting this thread. I learned that I could feed cooked food to my chicks yesterday. So When I went home I cooked up some ground beef and made dinner. Now before dinner I had offered a grape and the top part of a strawberry to our girls. They pecked it a bit but was not really interested. We had leftover's on our plate so when cleaning up I tossed the girls 1 piece of ground beef... I walked into the kitchen came back and it was gone! Those girls sure do love meat!

My flock has quite a few favorite foods but aside from figs (which they adore, but only get when the trees are producing), they love meat more than anything. They'll walk over and take a piece of meat out of the dog's mouth.

gritsar...

Sorry, I did not mean to turn your thread into a mad cow, mad chicken thread. Being new to the chicken thing I am finding it really interesting the way we (I) have been conditioned by the media and other outlets. The way it is beat into us about vegetarian chickens, free range chickens etc. Even more interesting is the way that us city folk are taught that the "clean, disease free" food comes from the grocery store when it really is the worst possible place.

I don't have moral issues feeding chicken to chickens - I just forget and toss my leftovers/scraps before I remember I have 5 hungry little raptors in the backyard.

Would cooked beef or pork bones be ok for them?
I made some pork neckbones the other day and I bet the girls would have had a nice snack picking at them for a while.

Or it has been sprayed with insecticide somewhere along the way.

Grandma used to can her cherries. Later open the jar of cherries, skim off the floating worms, pop the now clean cherries into the pie crust. Pie went to the church social and everybody ate it. No worries about insecticide, you just hope she found all the worms.

Well I just don't know. I might not be too creeped out, then I might be. I've never given my birds
any chicken. I think that I am just satisfied to give the birdies veggies and ramen noodels and grass
clippings. They are pretty happy and content with what they have, and I don't really want to make
carnivors out of them. I mean they have eatin mice, but that was what they caught themselves.
