its that time of the year again.... BACK TO SCHOOL....

Mine went to 1st grade and we only spent about $10 ..if that.
Well.. I lied.. another $10 for a new book bag (but only because I stunk his other up with shells from the beach

I like to save in that department and buy solid colors. No characters they are going to grow out of by next year. Same with clothes, folders, pencils, etc

Do your children have to buy school supplies? Just returned our grand daughters to our son and DIL (Little summer vacation with the Princess and me) and their 'school supplies' had arrived. They had a list of stuff that they needed to supply and the cost was in excess of $100/child.

Guess our taxes don't go far enough.

On a personal note-- way back long ago

when I was still in school, I HATED this time of year. Shortening day length and impending school led to near depression. For me school was always a trap. The outdoors was where I wanted to be. I realized that education was necessary and fought my way through, but school was always a difficult situation. Our kids loved school -- go figure.

School supplies $60
Tennis Shoes $25
Socks and under clothes $20

Me and my mother didn't talk for well over a year then when we did start talking again she realized that she missed a lot of things where my daughter is concerned and has bought her clothes all summer long because she feel guilty. I have told her repeatedly to stop buying things for my daughter but she buys them anyway while she is on business trips in larger cities. So now I don't have to worry about clothes except for when it gets cooler, I will need to buy her pants. With the drought right now that looks like it will be a long way off still, thankfully for us. I really do feel bad about my mother buying her clothes because of an argument but I am really happy that we don't have the added expense of clothes because the $100 we spent on just the basics was hard enough to come by for us right now.

My daughter really only needed some new tennis shoes. They hit a certain age and quit growing. We still haven't bought the pens and paper type stuff yet but that should be under $10 - as a senior all she really needs is a few spirals and folders. We have pencils coming out our ears here at home.

I'm with you on that - book bags had better last at least two years. The one my daughter is using is actually about 4 years old now. Winter coats were also bought a size too big, that became their "play" coat for the next year and the too big one was their "nice" coat. My kids were really rough on their coats when they got sent out to play in the winter.

I bought some school supplies, and it turns out most was not even on the list, lol.Stuff we can use anyway. I plan to shop at goodwill once the kids are at school.Nothing beats those name brand cloths for 75 cents each, but you have to wade through a lot of junk cloth to find them!

I still have to buy them each some slipper shoes for class, plus ds needs some expensive prism(sp) colored pencils. We are sad the summer is over. While they will enjoy the seeing the classmates for the first few weeks it will be whining about school daily for the rest of the year.Me, I dread the winter driving!

I bought the best LL bean bookbag at the thirft for 75 cents. So much nicer than the ones I usually buy at the discount store.

we have to buy everything!
graph paper, lined paper, glue sticks (no white glue allowed) pencil sharpeners, pencils, pens, coloured pencils, crayons (yes both), scissors, duo-tangs, spiral bound note books - 4 of then (for now) 100+ pages each with holes to go into a binder. 1 large ringed binder, grades 5 and up need a math set and a calculator,

we even need to supply 1 box of tissue per student 1 pkg of plain white printer paper, small box of chalk, and one bottle of hand santizer... this is for classroom use... we pay for EVERYTHING

I am sure I have forgot a few things but you get the hint

we will have a list of "other" things given out in about november... things the school is lacking....

LOL yes... our "long" holidays are from Dec - Jan, 8 weeks. Then there are the April (2 weeks), June/July (3 weeks), and September (2 weeks)

Great way to miss out of the crowds when going to America.. they're all in school!

It;s one of the perks in homeschooling too. we have the cheap disney passes (the ones that have school vacations blocked out), so we go on wensdays and have no crowds.

Similar to my granchildrens' list. My concern was what do people with large families and borderline income do?? Hopefully there is some sort of assistance. Frankly, I was blown away by this situation. I'm still living in the past where the school system provided everything.

families that are on a limited income are asked to provide what they can (which is usually squat) and thats why we get a revised list in November. The list in November is not a MUST list but its a letter of well we are still short at school we could really use more.. XYZ

we have to pay for class trips and when a student does not have the funds to pay for the trip a letter will come home explaining that there is a child who is in need can another family "sponsor" this child. If no one steps up the funds will be taken from the school fundraising account.
