I've been had!!!

I've paid $3-5 for baby chicks...when you want smaller quanities it's more $$$, just like anything...the more you buy the cheaper they are....

I paid $2.25 a piece for day olds from the local feed store. $4 seems steep, but hey live and learn

Don't feel too bad! I paid about $24 for some white silkie hatching eggs and I'm down to one possible developing egg on that batch. That's gonna be a $24 chick if it hatches!

I bought mine from local people (one a referral from a friend and the other I found on craigslist) and I paid $4/chick from them, but they were about a week old.

I'm picking up 11 new babies on Wednesday from Farm and Fleet - they placed a big order from Cackle and I'm only paying $2/chick.

I'd rather buy from local people, and I don't mind paying a few extra dollars if I'm helping support local farmers.

You weren't ripped off...you just didn't know all the options available to you. The hatchery provides a needed service and $4 a chick really isn't bad. Think of the fun you had trying to decide what breeds to buy and the anticipation before your babies arrived. Those memories are without price don't discount them by feeling like you were cheated...you weren't.

Enjoy your little ones!!
