I've got my first egg, and a lot of questions!

I have a new question. I know my girls are still relatively new to laying , but I just want to make sure everyone is okay. I have been getting one egg a day. I have 2 hens. One California White, and one Black Sexlink. I can never see who's laying the egg, so I'm nervous that it's only one girl laying and the other is not. On the first day, I got two eggs, within an hour of each other. Since then, only one egg for the entire day.
They have pellet food, oyster shells, and any veggie scraps from the kitchen. Neither of them seem to be acting sick, so maybe it's nothing.
Is it possible they're both laying every other day, or is it more likely only one is laying?

2 birds laying those....they don't always lay every day, especially at first.
Give them time.

Aaw, welcome your girls to the Big Girl Club!
We have what we call The Cluck several times a day. We currently have seven laying hens, and when one of them lays they will all join the egg song, even the two roosters. It can get kinda loud, but I know when I hear it to check the boxes! Of course it could also be that they see a cat, or a leaf fell, so it's not 100%

We take our eggs and put them in a carton in the fridge, then wash them before use. This is entirely due to having zero counter space and no other reason, so...

Also, we average 3 or 4 eggs a day with 7 Big Girls. No breed lays every day, so don't sweat that too much!

I am so excited; I went out to the girls coop cleaning and low and behold I found my 1st egg! Don't know who laid it and it was not in their nest boxes, but it is the 1st. It was still warm when I picked it up. It is small but I have read hens 1st eggs are small because they are just starting to lay--is this true? I am so excited eggs are starting to come!!! I have 6 hens, 2 RR and 4 Mystic Marans. It is a beautiful egg and clean.

Hurray!! The eggs will, indeed, get larger as the girls get more proficient. And, judging by the color, you can eliminate the RRs as suspects. I LOVE a good, dark egg.

Often times people new to home grown eggs worry because they have always had store bought eggs, which are perfect.

It is not because every egg is perfect, it is because they are sorted. The less than perfect are used in food production.

A good rule of thumb is, if bright eyed, eating and laying they are good.

Beautiful egg! Congratulations! My money is on one of your Marans since it's so dark. You should be able to tell since it's your first egg... look for the girl with the brightest red comb.

Eggs are usually small at first. They'll get bigger as the pullets mature!
