This could be it's exact twin. Except that the "stalk" area is green instead of white?

I thought it looked like a hosta of some kind. But then again, the only thing I can grow is mold on an old loaf of bread so...

Not to hijack this thread but I have a question for you, ranchhand...

I have two African violets that we damaged by the nasty smoke and soot from our dishwasher fire. These plants were on the counter directly above the dishwasher so they got A LOT of smoke. Some of their leaves died and, 3 weeks after the fire, they still look sickly. Think they'll be able to recover from this?

I seem have a natural green thumb... my plants thrive on the famine approach, since they have to beg for water before I give it to them.

This is what it really is.

Very similar to the aglo, but not quite the same. Don't know how well it works on teenagers!

Eventually they will. Don't water too much, just let them have some time. African violets can be sprouted from just one leaf cut off and planted in moist soil. If you get down to one leaf, do that. The stem part may regrow too, so don't pitch it out. My mom had the worst black thumb ever- and the only thing she could grow was African Violets! They can handle severe conditions and lots of neglect!

i think it just got sunburnt.

most houseplants cant take the extreme change of being exposed to a lot of sunlight all of the sudden.

You can not get water on their leaves... did you avoid wetting the leaves when you watered them? If you saw the pitiful soil mine are in, you would be amazed that they're alive!
