I've Lost It Completely-Yep, Nuts, Just Nuts

LOL, yep, we're are quite ill, all of us. Even the doc here is quite afflicted, huh, aran? Aran, the babies should be good in there-just do a test run with a thermometer inside where they'll be and your heatlamps running and you'll know where you stand and if you need to raise or lower them or lower the wattage, even. They would eat the insulation unless it was covered. May not be necessary with your heat lamps.
Twila, how are Silver's little ones doing? Yes, I'll be sending you a larger batch out on Nov 13 so you can do it all over again!

LOL cynthia...you can tell im having a slow shift in the ICU tonight since im on here right? Man I hope I get a nice trio of those awesome ameraucanas. I just love that black/green shimmering roo and the blue girls. And obviously it doesnt even need to be said that the blue orps are just amazing. By the way i think 3 of those blue orps are doing well. The 4th may be doing well but the shell is pretty hard to see through.

Even I have a hard time seeing the Orps when I candle early on. The Ameraucanas are easy to see-their shell quality is so clear and even-toned, it makes candling a breeze; at least until about the tenth day or so.

Aran, straw is very insulating, it holds heat real well, or, you could move to Florida, and bust your b*tt trying to keep the chickens cool in the summer.

LOL......I guess I have to join the ranks of hatchaholics.....I don't know why it's hit me so hard. I've hatched other batches before and haven't went off the deep end, so I don't know what's different this time. I've had 3 hatch today plus 3 eggs that don't seem to be doing anything. Between now and the end of next week I've got 3 more batches due. I told myself this was it until spring, but I'm already thinking about finding some more eggs when these are done!!!!!

Probably a good thing my hens are mostly molting right now and I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 eggs a day.....at least they aren't tempting me to continue. I need those to bake with!

They are doing great and they are just so cute. I will get a another picture tomorrow. I will have to take a couple pictures of their coop. I finished it today. I painted the inside yesterday and then mounted the roost today, I want to add a final coat of water seal to the outside. Now they just have to grow a little bit to move in!

Me too!! The people at the post office are asking me why I'm getting so many eggs in the mail or if they are really eggs!! DH just shakes his head when a box comes.

jackie, who hatched out 13 babies the couple of days and have some in the bators and some on the way!!

I would be afraid to hatch eggs for fear of getting another rooster and having to re-home him, that was sad. I would like two buffs though, so in the spring I'll be at the feed store looking for sexed buffs!!

WHen my Reds were biddies I kept them in the "A" part of my coop (A frame with pen below, roost in "A") and nailed up that plastic wire/netting that came from home depot in the gardening section to separate them from my much bigger Dominiques. That helped everyone see each other and get used to sleeping and living together but kept the Reds safe from the pecking. I have taken it down now since my Reds are 4 months and my Doms are 6 but my problem now is that the Reds are still too scared to go down into the pen with e bg bad balck & white chickens! I think all will be well when they are the same size but until then I let the Reds free range - under supervision- awhile each evening then put them back in the coop. The wire separation was easy and kept my girls apart nicely when they were really small, may work for some of ya'll too. I will try it again when this addiction for chickens hits me again the spring and I find some buff biddies, lol!! I am 2 chickens over my ordinace allowance now!!!
