I've been reading through some old threads regarding using Ivermectin for mites. I've read 3-5 drops on the base of the neck for application. The only Ivermectin I'm familiar with is the paste I used to worm horses. Is this type of application referring to an injectable liquid? Are there any other topical treatments I could apply for mites? I'd rather not use the powder dusting method as I'm on my own for a week and that looks like a 2 person job.

It works fine, but is not approved for chickens in the USA. Permethrin spray concentrate is approved, effective, easy, and inexpensive. Use that instead. I'd save the Ivermectin for a horrible out of control intestinal worm problem, where there's nothing approved anyway, if it's the right drug for the worms involved. For lice, mites, fleas, and ticks, use the permethrin spray instead. Mary

Just be careful with permethrin if you have cats. It's very toxic to them and will kill them. Otherwise, it's a great option :)

So true, and some cats are way more sensitive than others. Keep them AWAY from all permethrin products, and spray until it's all dry. Ivermectin is also very toxic depending on the dose, and is a real issue with collie/ herding type dog breeds. Insecticides are necessary at times, but aren't harmless. Mary

That is the key "if it's the right drug for the worms involved"... Sadly, *many* peafowl and chicken owners have lost birds thinking that ivermectin would treat cecal and capillary worms.
