Is ivermectin as effective orally for mites/fungus as it is topically? Trying to nurse a silkie back to health, unsure of what the issue is but vet gave oral ivermectin. Everything I’m reading says it needs to be topical. Advice?? Her skin is flaking and peeling off from head down her neck.

Ivermectin can be given orally, topically, and by injections. It is not effective against fungus, but is good for treatment of mites and lice. Can you post any pictures of the flaky skin? Favus or fungus of the comb and scalp can be treated with antifungal creams auch as miconazole or clotrimazole. Dollar Tree sells clotrimazole for a dollar. Miconazole is sold under several brand names, such as Monistat.

Yes let me grab a few pics. Her feathers look awful bc of all the cream and medicine that I’m applying. We were given oral ivermectin as well as topical Quadruple Ointment.

Oral ivermectin will work well for any external parasite that feeds on blood. It will have less effect on chewing lice, since they do not feed on blood.
