Hello,

I have 6, 4-6 month old pullets. A few of them have been battling lice/mites. I've dusted them several times and THINK it's almost under control. I'd like to use Ivermectin pour on to be sure I've gotten them all. But, they've never been dewormed. Should I use the wazine first and then use ivermectin in 2 weeks? Or, can I use the Ivermectin now for the lice/mites and use wazine in a few days? Is that too much?

Thanks!

From the little that I know - ivermectin does kill lice/mites. I just didn't want to screw up their worming schedule. I was told you should deworm with wazine, and then use ivermectin a few weeks later. But I'd prefer to use the ivermectin first and get rid of the lice/mites.

The general recommendation is to use piperazine first then ivermectin, but unless you suspect an overload of worms, you could just use the ivermectin--just realize tht you will still have to retreat in about a week.

Ivermectin will kill all lice or mites that bite into the bird's body, but there are some that eat the featehrs; I believe it is less effective against them, simply becuase they do not come in contact with the med. I have heard of making a dip or spray with ivermectin, which should get them as well.

I've heard several ways to give ivomec pour on. One hatchery told me I had to give it orally, but lots of others on here say you can put it on their backs, at the skin. Which is the correct way?
