Ivory the Rooster: Day 665 *updates*

I just sat here and read the whole thread too. Way to go on asking questions and truly taking the advice and running with it. What an awesomely responsible thing you have done for Ivory. I think he is a gorgeous roo and now father too. Very cool. Can't wait for the next update.

Day 543: And then there were 4...


Baby chick #4 hatched today! Hope (the first broody hen) is done sitting on her eggs and is doing a wonderful job of caring for the three chicks that are now about 2 weeks old (unnamed, Ivy, and Chance), and they're already starting to grow out their feathers!

'Unnamed' and Chance are both black/silver like their moms, while Ivy looks JUST like Ivory did when he was a baby chick! She's silver with the same golden face mask, but I can tell already that her feather pattern may look a little bit different...

But as for baby chick #4 that hatched this morning, she's doing good so far and is being cared for by broody #2, Jasmine, who is still sitting on 6 more unhatched eggs.

Unfortunately, due to limited space, we can't keep all of the chicks...In fact, we can only keep one, even though I wish we could keep them all!

So, for anyone interested in buying them, please PM me.

Chance: (she somehow flipped over on her back and couldn't get up until I helped her...but the two mother hens' reactions were priceless.

She kept peeping and kicking around to try and get up and Jasmine and Hope just stared at her with bewildered looks on their faces

After Chance's little ordeal...she decided it would probably be safer to hide under Jasmine.

Day 544: And then there were 5...


It's a warm, sunny day here and baby chick #5 just hatched!

He/she is cream/white colored with some silver, which is interesting, considering the fact that the three others are black/silver except for Ivy (Ivory's twin).

Now, baby chick #4 has a playmate!

Really? All the others were black and now there is a random white one.

When Ivory was a baby, he looked exactly like my chicky Omelet! They look exactly the same. She is gray and she has a tan face. I will put pics of her up soon.

Day 665:
It's been a while since I posted an update, so just thought I would post one for you guys now!

Although unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. But anyways, it has snowed here finally and Ivory and his family are getting used to seeing all the mysterious white stuff around their coop.
There are also some things that happened previously that I should mention. One is that out of the 5 chicks, 1 didn't make it (the white one in the pictures that were most recently posted).

The 4 that did make it are growing up nicely now and are looking more and more like adult chickens every day. We gave away one of the young pullets to a nice home, so now the young ones we have left are Chance (who is most likely a rooster, so we need to give him a new home), Ivy (Ivory's twin), and Julia (who is a younger one than the others because she was house-raised due to hatching complications, and she's just now getting accepted into the flock finally). Then there's Ivory, Hope, and Jasmine. Where's May, you might ask? Well that's another thing. Sadly, she went missing back in August and we never found her.

So that's all pretty much all the major events that happened previously. Now, everyone's just getting ready for winter and adjusting to all the cold snow on the ground.
