Ivory the Rooster: Day 665 *updates*

Hope is still living with the people who had ivory. I just might go back and get her too if she can't find another home because ivory needs some company!
He's still not looking too great, it's probably going to be a slow recovery.
But in all honesty I'm worried he might not pull through. He's very weak from anemia and I'm worried one of these days I'll go out to the coop and he'll be gone. :( hoping for the best but fearing the worst, it's just a matter of doing what I can and waiting at this point. I'll keep you all updated.

Good luck with him! Is he eating and drinking on his own? Are you supplementing with vitamins?

There are some really good threads on here about anemia: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...-from-anemia-dehydration-caused-by-mites-help

He is eating and drinking on his own, although sometimes I try to encourage him due to his lack of energy. I just bought some eggs that I'll cook up for him. He currently has two water bowls; one with regular water and one with vitamins (I bought a bottle of poultry vitamin supplement that has iron and other things in it). So hopefully that will help! I tried to give him a little bit of kale but he didn't seen too interested in it.
Thanks for the replies! I'll keep you guys updated.

Hey everyone, I just thought I'd let you all know that Ivory has passed away as of this morning. :hit I just went out to his coop this morning and he looked like he was asleep under his heat lamp, but he was gone.

I want to thank all of you for continuing to follow this thread since the beginning, and for all the help and advice you've offered. We did everything we could and I'm glad I was able to give him love and peace during his last few days with us. I will always love and miss my little rooster baby, but I know he's in a better place now.

Rest in peace, Ivory. 1/29/10-6/5/14

Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm glad he was with you and you finally got him back.

I don't really know what I'm going to do now. I still need to bury him somewhere...I don't want to even look at his coop right now, it makes me too sad. It just kinda sucks because I went out and bought a whole bag of cracked corn and built him his own caged run, I didn't even get to finish it. And now he's gone and I don't know what to do with any of it, I don't even want anymore chickens right now, it all just makes me sad.

It hasn't even been a day and I miss him terribly. I miss him making that familiar purring noise whenever I said "Goodnight Ivory!" before closing up the coop for bed, or how he zoomed in and pecked at whatever I tapped my finger on, or how he followed me everywhere like I was his mother hen...During his last few days, I just sat out in the grass with him in the sun and he would walk up to me and snuggle up close to take a nap. It's like all he wanted was to be loved and comforted. I miss him so much.

I know its been a while since you last posted. I started reading this thread early this summer, and just checked back today. I'm in tears, and I never even knew him. What an incredible story though. You gave him the best life any animal could ask for. I'm sorry for your loss.
