Jacin's Poultry 2022

I was disappointed to see that a few of the breeds I am interested in from Ideal are only available from Feb-May. I am in school til June & like to brood in the summer up in NY when I am home all day. I do like their selection and understand not having certain breeds available all year round but May seems like a super early cutoff…

Eitger a dog or a coyote was investigating our barn and 2021 pen yesterday morning/the nighr before.

There were footprints starting from the driveway, to the 2021 gate then back up the ramp to the barn doors, where they turned around and left.

Considering it actively stopped at the gate and doors and there was no sign of digging anywhere, I'm thinking it was one of the neighbors dogs. Sweet little pup, but he's so stupid sometimes. The road is completely packed down, so you cant see pawprints on it

I try not to order past may because the shed will be too hot for them. I never noticed that cut off before. What breeds are they? I might have other similar breeds or spirces for them

Production Black, California Gray, Chantecler, Rhode Island White, some colors of their Plymouth rocks, all Wyandottes except SL & GL, Dorking, Andalusian, Buckeye, Brambanter, Welbar. We ordered some of them from McMurray since they had all the other varieties we wanted, but I would have placed an order of 7-8 at Ideal if we could get a June ship date for the ones McM doesn’t have. Oh well.

It can already be up to 95F by May in Texas, 100+ by June. That's why they don't ship past then.

They ship other breeds (they actually brag about shipping 52 weeks a year). I wonder though if those breeds they dont are ones they buy the eggs of. I know a lot of hatcheries dont actially house all the breeds they sell

Try checking back with McMurray in February and throughout the spring. I know they lowball their numbers when the open up orders in the fall so they don’t overbook orders. They increase availability once they’ve had a few hatches and they know what this year’s fertility looks like.

Thank you. I am not the best writer lol. McMurray doesn’t carry Welbar, California Gray, Brambanter, RIW, or Chantecler, which I would have ordered from Ideal in June with 3 other breeds they do ship in June. I did add a partridge rock and Andalusian to my McM order along w a few others Ideal carrys. We have room for 8 more this year assuming we get only 1 mystery chick, so I’ll be on the lookout just in case! Will probably hatch some Ameraucaunas from a local guy and hope for a decent number of pullets.

I didn’t realize that they bought eggs…I knew they got stock from people who raise for them, but May seems like an odd time to stop shipping…unless it it just too hot for them. But you would think they might reopen shipping ins Sept through Oct if that was the case. Oh well. Maybe I can do an April group next year and plan ahead to take a little time off the first week they brood.
