Jacin's Poultry 2022

@U_Stormcrow (you're the only person I can think of that had them successfully judging by that last girl you had on your thread), what type of feed do you recommend for CX babies? I have 5 in a batch that are coming for a friend and I'll have them for a few days-few weeks depending on the time frames we're dealing with.

Would that turkey feed I posted earlier do good for them, or what would you recommend?

Anything in the 20-24% protein range will help them both bulk up and virtually assure the get the Methionine and Lysine levels they need for good joint development. Don't worry too much about the fat content.

I'm doing a software patch in the background, can't look for that turkey feed bag, I think it was 28%???

I'll post the feed recommends a bit later, when my internet is being more cooperative.

Alright, thanks.

OK, as promised:

UGA and a handful of others list these as target numbers for raising broilers - not the relatively high fat levels, and low fiber levels - they are encouraging the birds to get a lot of calories, fast (low fiber - reduces "bulk" in the feed) with high protein levels to support their body development:
Table 1. Typical Nutrition Concentrations for Various Types ofWeekPoultry

For comparison, here is the NRCS/USDA recommends (for broilers):
Table 1. NRC (1994) requirement for crude protein and the most rate limiting amino acids for broilers.
Weeks of age Nutrient0-33-66-8
Crude protein232018
Methionine0.50.380.32
Lysine1.101.000.85

and here are their "high yield" broiler recommends (which I would include CX in) - note they aren't focused on protein, solely AA:

Methionine.62.55.50.48.46.47.5
Lysine1.361.261.191.121.061.010.97

These aren't my only references, but they are the "gut check" references - if you see something way out of line, no need to go further... and the feed you linked is generally in the right ranges. Its lower fat, higher fiber - that should slow diegestion and reduce total calorie count, which **MAY** slow weight gain marginally, in a generally positive fashion. I'd assume (without proof or experience) that your CX will have fewer joint issues than on a commercially "optimum" diet, given enough examples to make the data reliable. Five birds for a friend is too small a data set to be useful - but you can tell that friend that the feed you are offering them is well suited to a superior CX experience, and better than most of the alternative feeds out there.

"Says me". ;) They don't know I'm not an expert. ;)

Some babies at my friend's house. I have 3 onyx with her currently that ill be trading dor her younger babies when they come in. One was brown, but woth those black legs that they have, so of course he went in the box at the store

Anyone know people with salmon faverolles? She thinks she might have gotten a boy based on color differences, but I can't tell since i have no experience with them

She thinks the top 2 are a girl and the bottom 2 are a boy (or maybe the the other way around?)

Friend is also taking 6 eggs to test out her new incubator. They'll likely be mixes since I only have the mosaic males in the 21 pen currently. But she can help me test the sexlinking with those too
